Liver Integrity

The liver is a remarkable organ and I think most people take it for granted. It’s actually one of the only organs  that has the ability to regenerate itself. This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. The liver supports every organ in the body and is vital for life.  You only have one liver, once it’s gone, so are you! It’s not as like your kidneys where you can survive on one. The wait list for a liver transplant is a long one. Some diseases that can affect the liver is contamination with Hepatitis (A,B,C,D,E), fatty liver, cancer, alcohol damage, cirrhosis and drug damage.  I’m going to provide some natural ways that have been shown to be effective in maintaining liver health.

*Milk thistle-Milk thistle has been reported to have protective effects on the liver and to greatly improve its function.

*Selenium- Antioxidant used to rid of free radicals.

*Lecithin – Phospholipids in bile help emulsify cholesterol.

*ALA- Increases glutathione levels, both are antioxidants. This will help in the regeneration process.

*NAC-Known to reduce liver enzymes levels by boosting antioxidant properties and reducing oxidation.

These are some very key components that will assist substantially in maintaining liver integrity. Do some research on these and let me know what you think.
